Edwin “Skinny” Riipi was an outstanding member of the DeKalb High School football team. He was married to Doris J. Riipi. 

In 2006, Doris established the Edwin “Skinny” Riipi Memorial Scholarship Fund to help provide financial support for a graduating senior from DeKalb High School. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student that has played football and is interested in pursuing a degree in physical education or a related field. Through this Scholarship Fund, the memory of Edwin lives on through the lives he impacts and the memories he leaves behind.
