Gordon Melms (1936–2020) dedicated his life to serving his family, church, and community. A longtime financial planner, he was known for his integrity, leadership, and commitment to helping others prepare for the future. Gordon gave generously of his time through numerous organizations, including the Kishwaukee Kiwanis, Oak Crest Retirement Center, First United Methodist Church, and the DeKalb County Community Foundation, where he served as Board president. He was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found great joy in supporting his family and sharing life’s experiences with those he loved. 

In his memory, gifts were directed to the Gordon and Lucy Melms Fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation. Established in 2000, this Community Impact Fund supports the Foundation’s ability to address emerging needs and opportunities throughout DeKalb County. Through the Fund and Gordon’s many years of community service, his legacy of leadership, generosity, and civic engagement continues to benefit future generations.
