Guyla Winebrener

Guyla Mae (Jones) Winebrener was born on November 23, 1917. She married Robert Winebrener on Dec. 10, 1936. She was the director of human resources at the Sycamore Municipal Hospital for 36 years. 


Guyla was an active participant in her community and served in a variety of roles. She was a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants, holding offices at the local and state levels; the Personnel and Human Resource Department of Directors of Region 1A of the Illinois Hospital Association; a volunteer at both Sycamore and Kishwaukee hospitals, as well as Oak Crest - DeKalb Area Retirement Center; a member of the Sycamore Woman's Club, the DeKalb County Farm Bureau, and a life member of the Kishwaukee Hospital 100 Club. 


The Winebrener's were the first residents of a duplex home in the Oak Crest retirement center, DeKalb. Guyla volunteered for 27 years with Oak Crest serving in various capacities, and received the Oak Leaf Award for outstanding volunteer service. In 2007, she was honored by her fellow residents by being elected Oak Crest queen.


Guyla Mae (Jones) Winebrener of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away on October 12, 2011. Guyla set in motion the creation of a Fund upon her death at the DeKalb County Community Foundation through a gift annuity with her life insurance. Her gift created the Guyla Winebrener Oak Crest Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarship support to employees of DeKalb Area Retirement Center/Oak Crest or their immediate families. The memory of Guyla lives on through the yearly scholarship awards and the impact they create.
