Helen Bozivich

Helen Bozivich (1916–2008) dedicated her life to education, learning, and the pursuit of excellence. A gifted mathematician and accomplished musician, she earned degrees in both science and music before completing her doctorate and embarking on a distinguished academic career. Helen taught mathematical statistics at Purdue University and later at Northern Illinois University, where she spent 30 years helping students develop analytical skills and confidence in the classroom. Beyond her professional achievements, she was known for her intellectual curiosity, appreciation for the arts, and commitment to lifelong learning.

Through a generous estate gift to the DeKalb County Community Foundation, Helen left a lasting investment in the future of DeKalb County. A portion of her unrestricted bequest was used to establish the DeKalb County Youth Grantmakers Fund, a Field of Interest Fund that provides annual support for the Foundation’s Youth Engaged in Philanthropy (YEP) program and its student-led grantmaking efforts. Through this enduring legacy, Helen continues to empower young people to learn about philanthropy, make thoughtful community investments, and strengthen DeKalb County for generations to come.
