James and Claudia Hicks
James E. Hicks (1937–2020) and Claudia Hicks (1940–2022) shared a life centered on family, education, and service to their community.
Jim devoted more than 50 years to education as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and mentor, shaping the lives of students across DeKalb County. He believed deeply in the power of schools to build character and opportunity. Claudia shared that same belief, valuing hard work, perseverance, and the importance of encouraging young people as they pursued their goals.
Together, they built a home grounded in love, support, and strong values. Claudia was devoted to her family and took pride in supporting both her loved ones and the broader community. Jim’s steady leadership in education and Claudia’s caring spirit reflected a shared commitment to helping others succeed, particularly within the Indian Creek community.
In their memory, gifts were directed to the Hicks Family Scholarship Fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation. This Fund is a tribute to James and Claudia and honors the legacy of the Hicks family and their lasting impact on education and community service in the Indian Creek Community.
The scholarship supports a graduating senior from Indian Creek High School with financial need who is pursuing a degree in education. Through this meaningful investment in future educators, Jim and Claudia’s dedication to learning and service continues to shape the next generation.
