Mary M. Bell (1925–2023) dedicated her life to education, athletics, and lifelong learning. A respected educator and coach, she spent more than 30 years at Northern Illinois University, helping advance women’s athletics while mentoring generations of students. She was also active in her church, professional organizations, and local history efforts, leaving a lasting impact on the DeKalb community. 

Through her trust, the DeKalb County Community Foundation received a generous gift in Mary’s memory. The contribution was added to the DeKalb County Community Endowment Fund, a Community Impact Fund that supports emerging needs and opportunities throughout DeKalb County. Through this legacy, Mary’s commitment to education and community continues to make a difference.
